Saltastic Salt Therapy & Wellness Spa

Dry Salt Therapy

Halotherapy also known as dry salt therapy is the perfect way to escape the world and take a few minutes for ultimate self-care. In our beautiful salt rooms, you will be surrounded by an environment inspired by tranquility, relaxation and rejuvenation to help you unwind. If you've been to the ocean, you've done salt therapy!

The salt room environment has been proven in various European clinical studies to alleviate respiratory and skin ailments ranging from allergies, COPD, cold & flu and eczema. A study recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that long-term natural treatment in a salt room had a positive impact on lung function and reduced pulmonary exacerbation.

Eastern Europeans have been using naturally built salt caves, salt rooms and salt mines as therapy for hundreds of years. As far back as the mid 1800’s, Europeans have taken advantage of the various healing benefits that come from sitting in a salt mine or salt room, such as inhaling (negative) ionized air and micro salt aerosols.

The calming and detoxifying effects of salt therapy support the immune, nervous and lymphatic systems. Additional benefits are reduced stress and anxiety, reduced occurrence of headaches, increased energy level, and better sleep patterns. Salt ions purify the air, increase lung capacity and reduce physical ailments for adults, children and athletes. Treatments are also recommended to help keep the body healthy during flu or allergy seasons.

Skin conditions can also be improved with salt therapy (psoriasis, skin rash, eczema, acne). Pure mineral salts have natural moisturizing properties and support the skin’s water balance and barrier function by attracting moisture to the skin. Minerals are necessary for cell function and detoxification, so mineral salts have strong rejuvenating properties.

The salt rooms room at Saltastic are a visually beautiful place to experience salt therapy, energy healing, reflexology or massages.  Naturally crushed salt on the floor and various salt lamps throughout the space offer a large surface for the generation of salt aerosols and negative ions release, consequently engaging the maximum therapeutic and energy potential. Exposure to negative air ions reduces stress and enhances overall performance. Negative ions increase blood and oxygen supplies to the brain, they also provide a boost of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which literally creates the feeling of happiness.

The Himalayan salt walls produce a soft light in hues of ambient orange, yellow and red that helps with stress, attention deficit disorder, and general relaxation, among others. The serene, soothing light is thought to balance physical, spiritual and emotional energies.

Family Salt Room

We provide music, toys, puzzles, arts and crafts we hope our little guests benefit from unplugging from technology and encourage an electronic-free zone. We do however have a TV in the room for little ones that need the distraction. Children must be supervised at all times and use their indoor voices. Our family salt room is designed for kids under 10 years of age. Family room rate is for one family.

Our salt therapy sessions are 45 minutes and begin on the hour throughout the day (See our hours and schedule).  We ask guests to arrive at least 15 minutes prior for their 1st session to check in, receive a tour of the facility, change clothes if desired, lock up their belongings and get comfortable.  After the first visit, we request guests to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the sessions so that when the session begins, lights can be dimmed and a calm, peaceful space for all guests can be ensured.

The temperature in our salt rooms is kept cool (69-72 degrees) and humidity levels around 40% to help mimic the micro-climate of a salt cave. We provide guests with pillows and invite them to bring a freshly washed blanket for those who would like additional warmth.  Salt is circulated throughout the room and if a light is shined during the session, it appears similar to dust floating through the air.  The salt particles settle on clothing so wearing light-coloured clothing is recommended to avoid salt showing on darker clothing.

How It Works

There are three primary characteristics of pure sodium chloride, NaCl, known as salt. Salt is anti-bacterial, salt is super absorbent and salt is anti-inflammatory.

Dry salt is placed into a halogenerator that precisely grinds the salt into specific micro-sized particles. During your session, the salt aerosol is dispersed into the air while you simply breathe and relax.

The salt generators used here at Saltastic are one of the most technologically advanced halogenerators in the industry, we place quality and your health and safety as a top priority.

As the salt travels in the salt room, these salt particles are inhaled into the respiratory system. Dry salt naturally stars absorbing allergens, toxins and foreign substances into the lungs and throughout your respiratory tract. Because everything in our respiratory system is moist, any pathogen that comes in contact with the salt becomes neutralized and absorbed, salt is also water soluble so your body can now dispose of the pathogens through your waste system. This is why we encourage clients to drink some extra water after their session. The properties of dry salt also absorb impurities and provide antibacterial properties that benefit the skin. The smaller particles can reach beneath the skin’s surface and absorb moisture towards the skin.

European scientific research has found that inhaled dry salt particles have bactericide, mucokinetic, hydrophilic, and anti-inflammatory properties, which may help to reduce inflammation in the entire respiratory tract and widen the airway passages. According to research by the Salt Therapy Association dry salt has also been found to accelerate the transportation of mucus, the elimination of residual tar and foreign allergens. A clean respiratory system naturally results in higher oxygen intake, increased engird, and an improved immune system.

Everything about  your salt session is subtle and calming, in fact many people fall asleep during their session. There are protocols for different ailments so it’s also important that you make sure you have a consultation with our certified halotherapist before your first session.

Clinical Research and Medical Evidence

Salt has been used for its healing and therapeutic qualities for thousands of years from a variety of geographic regions and cultures. In modern times, Halotherapy, has been observed and researched with recorded studies that go as far back as the early 1800s from physicians and scientists throughout Europe and the Far East. In the past few decades, more recent and current clinical studies have been published showing the efficacy of dry salt therapy and its application to various conditions.

Most of the current research and clinical studies are based in the countries where dry salt therapy has been a health and wellness modality for the past few decades such as Russia, Hungary, Poland, Finland, Israel, Italy and other geographic locations. These studies have been conducted by licensed medical professionals, clinical researchers, and have been published in various medical journals and publications such as the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. Some of the current research and published articles focus on how dry salt therapy impacts bronchitis, chronic obstructive lung diseases (COPD), asthmatics, dermatology, and other conditions. The Salt Therapy Association is also leading the way with supporting additional medical and clinical studies in the United States and abroad to further the research, development and efficacy of dry salt therapy/Halotherapy.
